Islam Makhachev narrowly defeated Alexander Volkanovski earlier this year, but at UFC 294 on Saturday, the lightweight champ quickly took out the featherweight star.

Not long into the fight, Makhachev stunned Volkanovski badly with a left high kick, and then finished the bout with follow-up punches. Volkanovski was stepping in on less than two weeks’ notice for Charles Oliveira, who incurred a cut while sparring.

Makhachev battled the featherweight champ for the first time in February, and recorded a tightly contested, decision win.

In the co-main event, Khamzat Chimaev worked his way to a majority decision win over former welterweight champ, Kamaru Usman, who stepped in on short notice for Paulo Costa. After the bout, the broadcast team reported that Chimaev incurred some sort of hand injury shortly into the contest.
