UFC FN 123: Cub Swanson Believes he Could Jump Past Frankie Edgar With Win Saturday

Cub Swanson has been campaigning for a title shot for months now, and the accomplished vet believes he could lock one up on Saturday night, at UFC Fight Night 123.

Swanson will take on fellow featherweight contender Brian Ortega at the event, which will take place in Fresno, California. The bout will also close out Swanson’s current, UFC deal.

Recently the 34 year-old had this to say, while discussing whether he believes he could secure a title shot, with a win over Ortega (quote via MMA Junkie):

“I think people jump people all the time,” Swanson said. “It sucks what happened to Frankie, but he had the title fight. He had to pull out. In a sense, I’ve been in that situation before, and somebody else is going to step up. That’s the reason I had to fight Frankie the first time when I was promised a title fight, because they told me if I didn’t fight him that Conor (McGregor) was going to pass me up by beating Dennis Siver, which is a joke, but yes. They made me fight him for my fourth consecutive No. 1 contender fight. I think a win with Ortega, a real big win, would be huge. If they don’t want to give me the show, then whatever.”

Edgar was scheduled to face the champion Max Holloway at UFC 218 last weekend, but had to withdraw due to a facial injury. Holloway went on to score a second, stoppage win over former champ, Jose Aldo.
