UFC FN 131: Gian Villante Sees Some Fights at Heavyweight “That I do Like”
By FCF Staff
Gian Villante has been a fixture in the UFC’s light-heavyweight division since 2013, but the New York fighter admits a jump to heavyweight isn’t out of the question.
Villante is preparing to fight Sam Alvey at UFC Fight Night 131, which will take place this Friday in Utica, New Jersey. During a recent episode of MMA Junkie.com Radio, Villante had this to say, about the prospect of fighting at heavyweight (quote via MMA Junkie):
“I wouldn’t mind fighting at heavyweight,” Villante said. “I do see some fights that I do like. But light heavyweight’s fun. It’s a division where there’s a lot of room to move. You string together a couple good fights, and you could be there pretty close for a title shot.”
The 32 year-old fighter also commented on the recent run of fighters missing weight, and while doing so, Villante said this:
“…It’s not just going in there and putting on a good show. It’s coming in and making sure you’re a professional and you make weight.”
Villante (16-9) is coming off a split decision win over Francimar Barroso, and Alvey (32-10) KO’d Marcin Prachnio in his last outing.
