Thiago Alves has been sidelined with another injury, and as a result, the punishing welterweight has been forced to withdraw from an August 23rd bout with Jordan Mein.

According to an announcement from the UFC, Brandon Thatch has agreed to step in and fight Mein at UFC Fight Night 49.

Thatch (11-1) has scored stoppage wins over Justin Edwards and Paulo Thiago since joining the UFC, and has won ten straight.

Mein (28-9) will be looking to build on the decision win he scored over Hernani Perpetuo in April, after he was stopped by Matt Brown at UFC on FOX 7.

No details regarding the specific nature of Alves’ injury was disclosed. The former #1 contender has fought just once since March, 2012.

UFC FN 49 will be hosted by the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
