Ryan LaFlare put up a determined effort against Demian Maia, but the latter’s world class ground game proved to be too much for the welterweight contender.

Maia was able to take LaFlare down repeatedly throughout the five round bout, and while the American was able to defend the Brazilian’s submission attempts, he fell way behind on the score cards. In round five, LaFlare rallied against the fading Maia, but he wasn’t able to land any notable strikes.

Maia was deducted a point for dropping to his guard late in the bout, but still emerged with a 48-46 score from all three judges.

In the co-main event, Erick Silva handed Josh Koscheck his fifth straight defeat, as he caught the established welterweight with a first round, guillotine choke. Koscheck came out aggressively and threatened Silva on a couple of occasions, but the Brazilian countered effectively and secured the fight ending choke.
