UFC FN 67: Carlos Condit Says Thiago Alves’ Attacks “Basic” But “Devastating”
By FCF Staff
Carlos Condit has faced more than his fair share of top welterweight fighters over the years, and that’s not going to change tomorrow night at UFC Fight Night 67.
The former WEC champ is booked to fight Thiago Alves, who like himself, has challenged for the title and has long been considered one of the UFC’s best 170’ers.
Recently Condit spoke to UFC.com about Saturday’s fight, and while breaking down Alves, the “Natural Born Killer” relayed the following:
“Thiago is basic and I’m not saying that as a negative thing. He’s basic in the sense that his fundamentals are very, very good. He doesn’t throw a whole lot of flashy stuff, but he alternates very well. He throws a lot of right, left, kick or left hook, right kick. But everything he does is devastating. Everything he does is fast and accurate. To contrast that I’m probably a bit more unorthodox in my striking approach. I throw things off the same side and do a lot of things maybe a traditional Muay Thai coach wouldn’t teach you. I just have kind of a different style, I guess you could say.”
Alves (21-9) is coming off a memorable, come from behind win over Jordan Mein in January, which saw the “Pitbull” finish the fight with a pounding kick to the body. The American Top Team fighter is ranked #12 at 170.
Condit (29-8), meanwhile, hasn’t fought since last March when he injured his knee while fighting Tyron Woodley. The vet is currently ranked #4.
UFC FN 67 will take place in Goiania, Brazil.
