UFC FN 67: Carlos Condits Talks Strategy For Thiago Alves, Why Rory MacDonald Will Become Champ
By FCF Staff
Carlos Condit still has some work to do before he locks up another title shot, but the welterweight believes if he does in the near future, Rory MacDonald could be champ.
Condit (29-8) is set to fight Thiago Alves (21-9) this Saturday at UFC Fight Night 67, which will mark the first time he’s competed since last May, when he injured his knee versus Tyron Woodley.
The perennial contender appeared on “UFC Tonight” to talk about the bout, and when asked about his own title shot aspirations, the “Natural Born Killer” relayed (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release)
“I think it depends on the fight between Rory MacDonald and Robbie Lawler. Rory’s been inching to get a shot at me for a while. I may be two or three fights away. I’m picking Rory this time. I think he’s learned from that first fight, he’ll open up a little bit and not be so conservative and walk with the belt.”
Condit came from behind to stop MacDonald in 2010, and since then, the latter has repeatedly stated he wants to face the vet again. In the meantime, however, MacDonald is set to challenge champion Robbie Lawler on July 11th.
In Alves, Condit will take on one of the division’s most experienced and dangerous fighters, who took out Jordan Mein in his last outing, When asked about the strategy he’ll need to employ versus “The Pitbull”, the former interim champ stated:
“He’s a phenomenal fighter, he’s good everywhere. My key to victory is to push the pace, get in there, grind him, get him tired and then I can walk away with the victory.”
UFC FN 67 will take place at the Goiania Arena in Goiania, Goias, Brazil.
