UFC FN 75: Josh Barnett Admits he Expected to Finish Roy Nelson “Within Two Rounds”
By FCF Staff
As one would expect, Josh Barnett believed he would defeat Roy Nelson last night at UFC Fight Night 75, but “The Warmaster” admits he wasn’t planned for how things unfolded.
Barnett constantly pressured Nelson throughout the fight, and out struck the heavy handed fighter for much of the bout, but “Big Country” kept battling back. After the five, gruelling rounds, Barnett was awarded the unanimous decision win.
While speaking to the UFC after the memorable bout backstage, here is some of what Barnett had to say about the fight:
“I expected to take him out and finish him within two rounds. I expected to have him dead tired enough that I’d be able to have my way with him. But that didn’t happen. He managed to put enough of his body on me, and just endure enough to take some of my cardio in terms of delivering punishment. As long as Roy stands on his feet and takes a breath, he’s always got the equalizer to change any fight and turn it around.”
The bout marked the first time since Barnett was KO’d by Travis Browne in 2013 that the former heavyweight champ had fought. With the win, Barnett moved his record to 34-7. Nelson, who has lost five of his last six bouts, saw his fall to 20-12.
