UFC FN 84: Michael Bisping Defeats Anderson Silva in Unforgettable Battle
By FCF Staff
Michael Bisping absorbed a great deal of punishment at UFC Fight Night 84, but the middleweight contender managed to defeat Anderson Silva as he said he would.
Bisping came out aggressively to begin the fight, and was largely able to out strike Silva when they exchanged punches. Silva starting setting traps with taunts and feints, but Bisping stayed on task, and in round two, dropped the former champ with a left hook.
Silva turned up his attacks in round three, and as the round neared its end, he dislodged the mouthpiece of Bisping with a punch. The latter called for referee Herb Dean to stop the action, but as he did, Silva floored him with a flying knee right before the horn sounded. Silva thought he had won the fight, and began celebrating, but was informed the bout was in fact not over.
A bloodied Bisping continued to press forward for the remainder of the bout, and while Silva landed several more telling strikes, it was too little too late. The British star was handed a unanimous decision win over the Brazilian legend.
After the bout Bisping relayed that he has enormous respect for Silva, who he had repeatedly criticized leading up to the bout for his PED suspension.
