UFC on FOX 15: Chris Weidman Praises Luke Rockhold For Win, But Says “I’m a Totally Different Ball Game”
By FCF Staff
Following UFC on FOX 15, middleweight champ Chris Weidman praised Luke Rockhold for his victory over Lyoto Machida, but warned the contender facing him isn’t going to be so easy.
Rockhold dominated Machida on Saturday and ended up submitting the former light-heavyweight champ with a second round, rear-naked-choke. Machida challenged Weidman for the title last July, and lost the competitive and memorable fight via unanimous decision.
Well, after the card, here is some of what Weidman had to say about Rockhold, while speaking to FOX Sports (quote via MMA Fighting.com):
“It’s all about matchups,” Weidman said, after arguing Rockhold is “well rounded”, but not an expert in anything. “He did great against Lyoto Machida, but that’s not me. He’s gonna have to deal with a whole different game plan. A totally different ball game.”
Rockhold has won four straight fights now and was ranked #4, prior to Saturday’s bout with the #2 positioned Machida.
Weidman, meanwhile, is scheduled to fight the #3 ranked contender Vitor Belfort on May 23rd at UFC 187.
