UFC on FOX 17: Alistair Overeem Says Jackson-Wink MMA “Was Exactly What I Needed” to Get Back on Track
By FCF Staff
If Alistair Overeem takes out Junior dos Santos tonight at UFC on FOX 17, the heavyweight will leap into the title shot mix, and “The Reem” says Jackson-Wink MMA is a big reason why.
It wasn’t that long ago when most fans and observers had written Overeem off as a contender. Last September, the former Strikeforce champ was stopped by Ben Rothwell, which was Overeem’s third defeat in four fights. It was the latest in a series of setbacks for the Dutch fighter, following his memorable UFC debut in 2011, when he quickly took out Brock Lesnar.
Well, since the loss to Rothwell, Overeem has impressed by stopping Stefan Struve and then earning a clear cut, decision win over Roy Nelson. Recently the 35 year-old spoke to UFC.com, and Overeem credited his move to Jackson-Wink MMA for his recent success.
“Going to work with Greg Jackson and the team in Albuquerque was instrumental for me,” said Overeem, who went to the New Mexico camp after leaving the Blackzilians gym in Florida. “There is a great environment there and it was exactly what I needed to do to get back on the winning streak and get back to being where I need to be in the division.”
Dos Santos will be fighting for the first time since last December, when he earned a decision win over Stipe Miocic.
UFC on FOX 17 will be hosted by Orlando’s Amway Center.
