Tony Ferguson has done nothing but win since he was decisioned by Michael Johnson in 2012, and the lightweight contender admits there’s a correlation…

Since Ferguson faced Johnson at UFC on FOX 3, “El Cucuy” has won seven straight fights and is sitting in the #4 spot at 155. On April 16th, the 32 year-old will take on vaunted grappler, and the #2 ranked, Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Recently Ferguson spoke to UFC.com about his impressive career, and while doing so, he said this about the loss to Johnson:

“I took that loss to Michael Johnson kind of hard and I knew I had to do something about it because I was close to that radar for the top ten and I know where I belong,” he said. “I know that I belong up there.”

“It’s like any other story you hear from any other fighter that’s successful,” Ferguson added later. “It wasn’t easy. But I’m here now.”

UFC on FOX 19 will take place in Tampa, Florida. The event will mark the first time Nurmagomedov has fought since 2014, when he decisioned now reigning champ, Rafael dos Anjos.
