UFC Rankings Update: Fabricio Werdum, Yoel Romero and Khabib Nurmagomedov Move up the Ladder
By FCF Staff
The Ultimate Fighting Championship has released its new rankings, following the latest FOX card on Saturday night, and Fabricio Werdum is officially the #1 heavyweight contender.
As a result of Werdum’s unanimous decision win over Travis Browne, in what was a title shot eliminator, the Brazilian heavyweight has moved into the #1 ranking. Former champ Junior dos Santos, who had been holding that spot, is now ranked #2. Browne remains in the #3 position.
At middleweight, Yoel Romero moved up three rankings to the #11 spot, as a result of his UD win over Brad Tavares on Saturday. The latter dropped down one ranking and now sits at #14.
And thanks to Khabib Nurmagomedov’s unanimous decision win over Rafael dos Anjos, the rising lightweight is now ranked #5. Prior to the win, which was the Sambo champ’s sixth straight in the UFC, Nurmagomedov was ranked #7.
As a result of the loss, dos Anjos fell three rankings and is now #8.
The UFC rankings are voted on by a panel of media members following each event.
