UFC Rankings Update: Lyoto Machida Moves up Middleweight Rankings After Latest Win
By FCF Staff
Lyoto Machida scored another, impressive win at UFC Fight Night 58 on Saturday, and the middleweight saw his ranking improve as a result.
The former light-heavyweight champ quickly put away CB Dollaway with a punishing liver kick and follow up punches in the card’s headliner. Following the victory, Machida has moved from the #4 ranking spot to #3. Vitor Belfort, who will face champion Chris Weidman on February 28th, has dropped to #4.
Former champion Anderson Silva is currently ranked #1, and “Jacare” Souza is sitting at #2. The latter is scheduled to fight the #6 Yoel Romero on February 28th at UFC 184.
Although nothing has been booked yet, UFC President Dana White has once again expressed an interest in booking Machida to fight the #5 ranked Luke Rockhold.
In other rankings news, Anthony Pettis has been moved into the #5, pound-for-pound ranking spot, and Cain Velasquez has dropped to #5.
The UFC rankings are determined by a panel of media members following each each event.
