Lerone Murphy took a big step towards title contention on Saturday, by outscoring longtime, featherweight contender, Josh Emmett.

The two battled in the headliner of UFC Vegas 105, which took place at the Apex Facility. Although Emmett threatened with his booming right hand on multiple occasions, he was unable to land the finishing shot.

Murphy, meanwhile, outstruck Emmett in many of the exchanges and was handed the fight by all three judges. With the win, Murphy moved his overall record to 16-0. Emmett’s record fell to 19-5.

Heading into the contest, Murphy was ranked #10 in the featherweight rankings and Emmett was #8.
