By FCF Staff
Following Alexander Volkov’s one-sided win over Alistair Overeem at UFC Vegas 18, the heavyweight is hoping to fight for the promotion’s title next.
Volkov stopped the legendary Overeem with a series of punches in round two. The victory extended the Russian fighter’s UFC record to 7-2, and his overall record to 33-8.
After the win, the 32-year-old had this to say, while talking about his hopes for the future (quotes via MMA Junkie).
“I want to fight for the belt, for sure,” Volkov said. “But we’ll see. We’ll have some good fights in the future at heavyweight, so we’ll see how it finishes and we’ll see what will be my place. But for sure, I would like to take a title shot.
“I feel really excited and I feel great. It’s my time, and I’m coming for the belt.”
Heading into Saturday’s card, the former Bellator champ Volko was ranked #6 in the UFC’s heavyweight division.
Heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic is booked to fight Francis Ngannoua at UFC 260, March 27th. Miocic and Ngannou fought in January, 2018, and the latter lost the fight via decision.
