UFC’s Edson Barboza Would be “Very Happy” to Fight Anthony Pettis or Tony Ferguson Next
By FCF Staff
After returning to the win colum at UFC on FOX 16, Edson Barboza is looking to secure a high profile fight, and make some more moves in the UFC’s lightweight division.
Barboza outscored Paul Felder last month to earn a unanimous decision win, and in doing so, rebounded from the decision loss he was handed by Michael Johnson in February.
Recently the feared striker spoke with UFC.com, and while doing so, he was asked if he’d be interested in facing Anthony Pettis or Tony Ferguson next. The Brazilian fighter stated:
“For sure, man. If one of those guys could be my next fight I would be very happy and would be ready for any of those two.”
Both Pettis and Ferguson are currently not booked for bouts. Pettis hasn’t fought since March when he was decisioned by Rafael dos Anjos and lost the title, while Ferguson is coming off a UD win over Josh Thomson in July.
Pettis is the #1 contender at 155 and Ferguson is ranked #9. Barboza is currently sitting in the #7 spot. The latter also relayed the following in the aforementioned story:
“I feel very happy and blessed to be part of the biggest MMA event in the world. What’s changed was that in the beginning of my MMA career I used to think about the financial thing, but as I was fighting and fighting I was liking MMA more and more, and now I really love my job. I’m truly blessed to do what I love…”
Barboza currently holds a record of 16-3 and has gone 3-2 in his last 5 bouts.
