Velasquez Picks Up Lengthy Medical Suspension, Coach Says Champ’s Jaw “Fine”
By FCF Staff
The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation has released the medical suspensions that have been handed out following UFC 166, which featured heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez stopping Junior dos Santos in the fifth round.
Although Velasquez has been suspended for six months due to a possible broken jaw, his coach Bob Cook has told Full Contact Fighter the heavyweight champ’s jaw is “fine.” Velasquez will be able to compete earlier provided he’s medically cleared to do so.
Junior dos Santos, who was battered and bloodied in the fight, has been suspended indefinitely “pending clearance from an ear, nose and throat doctor.”
UFC 166 was hosted by the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
