Vicente Luque: Tyron Woodley “Remains Highly Dangerous” Despite Recent Setbacks
By FCF Staff
Although Tyron Woodley’s recent run of losses has prompted speculation as to whether the former champ’s best days are behind him, Vicente Luque isn’t looking past the decorated fighter.
Luque has been booked to face the former welterweight champ at UFC 260 this Saturday, which is taking place in Las Vegas. As the bout approaches, Woodley (19-6-1) has dropped three straight fights to Kamaru Usman, Gilbert Burns and most recently, Colby Covington.
While talking to MMA Junkie recently about the upcoming match-up, Luque had this to say about the 38-year-old Woodley.
“This is a great fight,” the 29-year-old Luque said. “It makes sense for this bout to happen now. Woodley is an ex-champion. He’s not in a good spot right now, but he remains highly dangerous. He has several great wins in his career, and I’m on a new winning streak. I’m hungry to get a title shot.
“Both of us have something to prove. He wants to be champ again, and I want to prove that I can also get there and be one of the most dominant fighters in our weight class. I believe now is the ideal time for this fight. Fans should not miss this one.”
Luque (19-7-1), meanwhile, has won consecutive fights against Niko Price and Randy Brown, after losing via decision to Stephen Thompson in 2019.
Woodley is ranked #7 in the UFC’s welterweight rankings ahead of UFC 260, and Luque is #10.
