Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Alexander Gustafsson Rescheduled for UFC 141

By FCF Staff

A bout between veteran Vladimir Matyushenko and rising light-heavyweight Alexander Gustafsson has been rescheduled for December 30th at UFC 141, after their initial encounter in August was cancelled due to Matyushenko being injured.

Matyushenko (26-5) is coming off back-to-backs stoppage wins over Alexandre Ferreira and most recently Jason Brilz, after being TKO’d by current champion Jon Jones last August. The 40 year-old-veteran and accomplished wrestler is 4-1 in his last five fights.

When FCF spoke with Matyushenko earlier in the month, he stated that he was hoping to rematch either Tito Ortiz or Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in his next fight, but also welcomed a match-up with Gustafsson.

The Swedish fighter (12-1) has won three straight bouts since he was submitted by Phil Davis at UFC 112 last October. Since the defeat Gustafsson has scored wins over Cyrille Diabate, James Te Huna and most recently Matt Hamill.

When asked to assess Gustafsson recently, Matyushenko stated:

“He’s a really good striker, he’s got the distance, has long arms, and I think for a fighter like that you have to train a little more than just a couple of weeks. For Hamill, he didn’t really have time to prepare for a fighter like that.”

UFC 141 will be hosted the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and will be headlined by a heavyweight bout between Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem.
