Warrior’s Quest Weigh-in And Press Conference
Warrior’s Quest Weigh-in and Press Conference August 24, 2001 – Players Aiea Sports Bar By Michael Onzuka – Mike@onzuka.com The Warrior’s Quest weigh-in and press conference was held in Aiea near the Hawaiian home of the NFL, Pro Bowl Aloha Stadium. This event marked the release of a new sanctioning body in Hawaii, Hawaii Association of Mixed Martial Arts (HAMMA). More information regarding the formation of this sanctioning body will be released soon. The press conference had an interesting set up, all the fighters sat at tables formed in a "U" shape facing their opponents, with the headliners seated in the middle. ![]() With the removal of Joe Hurley, who was originally scheduled to fight Ray "Bradda" Cooper, a very tall and lanky Jeremy Williams stepped up for the challenge. Williams kept all the fighters very relaxed as he constantly cracked jokes during the photo sessions. The card is full of fighters from the Jesus is Lord gym, which is expected when two brothers-in-law, Brennan and Kai Kamaka, are the promoters. The JIL team is very friendly and inviting which helped the onlookers really start getting the impression that mixed martial arts is indeed a sport and not grudge matches or street fights. ![]() The "Machine Gun," Ronald Jhun looked ripped and ready as he attempts to continue his dominance in the 180-pound class facing a densely built, Pete Spratt. The Shooto Hit Man, Stephen "Bozo" Palling, is keeping himself busy and sharp while taking on Antonio Banuelos. All the fighters that were present easily made weight and looked ready for action. Chuck Liddell, was present at the weigh-ins and looked in top shape for his upcoming fight with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, Murilo Bustamante. UFC and KOTC veteran Chris Brennan was also in attendance. UFC Light Heavyweight Champ, Tito Ortiz and UFC, Pride, and WWF superstar, Ken Shamrock are flying in early Saturday afternoon to watch the fights. The card looks to be a good mix of young and experienced fighters that should give the Hawaii fans something to enjoy this Saturday.
