Warriors Quest Weigh-ins & Press Conference
Warriors Quest Weigh-ins & Press Conference Hawaii Prince Hotel – Honolulu, Hawaii 12:00 Noon, November 30, 2001 By Michael Onzuka – Mike@onzuka.com ![]() As everyone knows by now, what you see is not always what you get, especially in fight cards. Due to many circumstances, the UFC veterans, Eugene "Wolf" Jackson and Brad Gumm, that were supposed to be fighting Hawaii fighters are no longer on the card. Some new faces for the Hawaii fans stepped in to face three of Hawaii’s growing top guns in the MMA scene. Two of retired Shooto champ Erik Paulson’s students will face Ray "Bradda" Cooper and Falaniko Vitale. Word on the street was that Niko was not sure that he could make the 185 lb. class, but has shown that he can hang with everyone he has faced at 205. He would make waves in the 185 lb. class, but the 205 lb. class is flooded with many great fighters so it will probably be more difficult to make a name for himself. Ron "The Machine Gun" Jhun returns to action after his epic battle against Pete Spratt to face the Pride veteran, Shannon "The Cannon" Ritch. Ritch is just off a performance in the Ironheart Crown show where he fought Henry Matamoros. As noticed in the fight card, the Jesus is Lord team has suffered a break up, but I will find out more after talking to the key members of the team before speculating. The remaining fights on the card mixes Hawaii’s up and coming fighters against Chris Brennan’s Next Generation Team and Eugene Jackson’s Team Gladiator. Both fighters were there to support and corner their stable of fighters. Jackson looked trim and in shape and Brennan is always ready for war. UFC and WFA veteran refereee, Larry Landless, will be the head referee for the event and ran the rules meeting. The Warriors Quest is complying to the Nevada Athletic Commission and UFC rules. The press conference was held at the beautiful Hawaii Prince Hotel at the entrance to Waikiki and near the large Ala Moana Shopping Center. It was quite an upscale venue and the best layout I have seen for a press conference. If the fights live up to anywhere of the same class as the weigh-in venue, Hawaii fans should enjoy the show.
