As World Series of Fighting waits to find out the results of a random drug test the Nevada State Athletic Commission had Rousimar Palhares undergo, the promotion has taken steps to ensure that Steve Carl competes March 29th, with or without the UFC vet.

During a media call Tuesday WSOF Vice President Ali Abdelaziz reported that the promotion has a back-up plan, in terms of an opponent for Carl, if Palhares fails his test. Abdelaziz wouldn’t offer any information as to who the fighter may be, however, Tyler Stinson told the media they need to do their “homework” and that he’s the “back-up plan.”

Stinson is scheduled to fight Josh Burkman at the May 29th card, which will go down at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Stinson made his WSOF debut in January and stopped Valdir Araujo in the third round.

Palhares tested positive for elevated testosterone levels in December, 2012, after he was stopped by Hector Lombard while fighting for the UFC.

Last October, the feared submission artist tapped out Mike Pierce with a first round, heel hook, but held on to the fight ending technique for too long. Palhares, who has been disciplined in the past for a similar incident, was subsequently banned by the UFC.

Carl laid claim to the inaugural WSOF title in October by choking out Josh Burkman with a fourth round, triangle-choke. The 21-3 fighter has won 7 straight bouts.
