WSOF Champ Lance Palmer Discusses Future, “World Class” Status
By Kelsey Mowatt
Lance Palmer continued to impress at World Series of Fighting 21 by taking out Chris Horodecki, and speculation regarding the featherweight champ’s future, has likely never been more extensive. This is what happens when you’re a four time, All-American wrestler, have a 10-1 record, and train with one of the planet’s best camps in the sport, Team Alpha Male.
While Palmer’s immediate future is with WSOF, and he seems happy with that fact, others have begun to discuss and debate how “The Party” would do in the UFC. It’s a question that follows other decorated fighters who aren’t signed to ZUFFA, and WSOF champs like Marlon Moraes and Justin Gaethje have also sparked these debates.
Palmer recently appeared on Full Contact Fighter’s podcast, and while discussing his current situation and the top tier competition he hopes to face, the 27 year-old said this:
“I mean that’s how I’ve felt since the beginning is that I’m world class caliber, but I think it’s just that as long as I keep improving each fight, it doesn’t matter who I fight,” said Palmer. “Whether it’s in World Series of Fighting, or in the UFC or whatever, I still have three fights left on my contract with World Series, so I’m happy where I’m at for now.”
“But, I know that I have to keep winning fights and keep improving,” Palmer added. “So, it doesn’t really matter who I fight from here on out, as long as I keep getting better and keep bringing myself to a higher level, then I’ll be ready to fight anyone else who’s the best in the world.”
Of course, it’s worth noting that WSOF has added accomplished fighters like Jake Shields, Rousimar Palhares and Yushin Okami, among others, to its roster in the last year. So, the promotion clearly has the will and resources to bring in talented, big name vets.
“It’s been good, they’ve been bringing guys in,” added Palmer, who has defeated Nick LoBosco, Rick Glenn and Horodecki, since he was submitted by Georgi Karakhanyan in 2013. “It will be interesting to see what happens in the near future.”
WSOF 22 will take place on August 1st at the Planet Hollywood and Resort’s Axis venue in Las Vegas. In the main event, the aforementioned welterweight champ Palhares will take on Shields.
The card will also see the bantamweight champ Moraes face Sheymon da Silva Moraes. The event’s main card will be broadcast on the NBC Sports Network.
