Justin Gaethje picked up his third consecutive World Series of Fighting (WSOF) win and is now a perfect 10-0 in his professional MMA career.

Gaethje finished Dan Lauzon by TKO on the main card of WSOF 6, completely dismantling his older, more-experienced opponent. Gaethje was able to chop away at Lauzon’s legs almost immediately, causing Lauzon to show discomfort.

“It’s something I work on a lot in practice with my coaches,” Gaethje told Full Contact Fighter, “once I see it’s there, I just go for it. I fight to please the fans and get recognition from my fights. I put it on the line for everyone watching.”

Fighters have different strategies when it comes to preparing to step into the cage on fight night – and Gaethje spends time improving himself in the gym and isn’t too stressed about what his opponent is ready to do.

“I focus on my game plan – (I need) to work on my defense a little more – but I have the same goal and game plan (for each fight): put pressure on my opponent and grind away. I only trained MMA two and a half years… and look forward to working hard and getting better.”

Gaethje also noted that he looked forward to hopefully fighting overseas next year and put on a show for the WSOF’s expanding audience.

As for what’s next for Gaethje, which hasn’t been announced by the WSOF, it’s hard to tell – but the fighter has a clear goal: “I’m looking forward to fighting as soon as possible, and would like to fight before the end of 2013.”

Gaethje also said a fight with Luiz Firmino, who beat Jacob Volkmann by unanimous decision at WSOF 6, would be entertaining.

Personally, I think Gaethje fighting Firmino would be a fun fight, as Gaethje has beaten the likes of Lauzon, Gesias Cavalcante, and Drew Fickett in his young career – and Firmino has fought very steep competition during his PRIDE and Dream days in Japan.

Expect to see the former Division I All-American from the University of Northern Colorado to fight either later this year, or in early 2014.
