Following Fedor Emelianenko’s win at Bellator 198, it didn’t take long for his next opponent, Chael Sonnen, to start trash talking. But, according to “The Last Emperor”, he’s encountered a different Sonnen behind the scenes.

Emelianenko faced Frank Mir in the main event of Saturday’s card, and proceeded to finish the former UFC champ in under a minute. As a result of the win, Fedor will face Sonnen in the semifinals of the promotion’s heavyweight grand prix.

When asked about Sonnen after the event, and reputation for verbally bashing his opponents, Emelianenko said this (quote via MMA Junkie):

“To tell you the truth, I believe that Chael is a good person, because when we meet each other in some place or in the hotel, we actually communicate in a very good and friendly manner.”

“In public, definitely, his behavior is challening,” he said. “I think that’s the way he attracts extra attention to his fights and his performances. Because I know him from an absolutely different side.”

Sonnen defeated “Rampage” Jackson by unanimous decision in their tournament, quarterfinal bout.
