Conor McGregor Says “It’s All Systems Go” For UFC Return This Summer
By FCF Staff
Not long ago, Dana White reported he didn’t expect Conor McGregor back in the Octagon until this fall, at the earliest. But, once again, the star is saying he will be back in action this summer.
After months of speculation regarding if and when McGregor will fight fellow TUF coach, Michael Chandler, he announced in January the fight would take place on June 29th. No confirmation, however, ever emerged, and as noted, White stated last month he was “hoping” McGregor – Chandler would take the fall.
But, while promoting his role in the new film, “Road House” this week, McGregor told ESPN that the Chandler fight will go down this summer.
“We got confirmation a few days ago that it’s all systems go,” said McGregor.
In January, McGregor claimed the fight with Chandler would take place at middleweight. But, now the former lightweight and featherweight champ has admitted he doesn’t know what weight the fight will be at.
In addition, the Irish fighter also confirmed that he has participated in a couple of preliminary training camps to get ready for his return.
“I had [my training] camp in Dubai [months ago], I had a camp in Cannes,” McGregor said. “I was preparing, and then I was kind of getting nothing back. And then other things came up and I kind of dipped out. But now, it’s on. So, there’s no messing now. I cannot dip out now.”
The 35-year-old McGregor (22-6) hasn’t fought since June, 2021, when he broke his leg in a rubber match with Dustin Poirier.
Chandler (23-8), who is 37, last competed in November, 2022, when he was submitted by Dustin Poirier.
