Following Conor McGregor’s abrupt retirement announcement, and a report that the fighter is under investigation for sexual assault, the star’s spokesperson has released a statement.

Since McGregor’s retirement tweet, the New York Times is reporting that the former UFC champ is being investigated by Irish authorities, regarding a sexual assault allegation. The report states that McGregor has not been charged with any crime.

Karen Kessler, a spokesperson for McGregor’s legal team, has since released this statement to ESPN:

“This story has been circulating for some time, and it is unclear why it is being reported now.”

“The assumption that the Conor retirement announcement today is related to this rumor is absolutely false. Should Conor fight in the future, it must be in an environment where fighters are respected for their value, their skill, their hard work and their dedication to the sport.”

McGregor is coming off a submission loss to lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov in October.
