Conor McGregor Trades Twitter Shots With Showtime Exec Over Mayweather Bout, PPV Figures
By FCF Staff
Conor McGregor had some less than kinds words for Showtime Sports’ Stephen Espinoza, leading up to his August 26th bout with Floyd Mayweather, and the UFC champ is blasting the executive again.
Following McGregor’s stoppage loss to Mayweather last summer, Showtime reported that the bout sold approximately 4.3 million pay-per-view buys in North America. UFC President Dana White, however, was documented saying the fight sold 6.7 million buys internationally, and in a recent interview with Yahoo Sports, he criticized Showtime, while discussing their aforementioned, press release. According to White, the Mayweather – McGregor bout was the top selling fight in combat sports history.
Since then, Espinoza and McGregor had the following exchange on Twitter:
Sounds like he's upset because we committed the cardinal sin of telling the truth (when we released the accurate total for N. American PPV buys on MayMac).
Strange that telling the truth, in a press release vetted by all parties in advance, is something to be "despised" for. https://t.co/rFxKXz0Bjz
