Shortly after the August 26th boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor, Dana White reported the all-star bout had sold 6.5 million pay-per-view buys. Now, in a more recent interview, the UFC President relayed the fight sold even more than that.
While speaking to the Wall Street Journal recently, White said the following about the massive fight (quote via Bloody Elbow.com):
“The thing ended up doing 6.7 million pay-per-view buys globally. How about this, we broke the record in Australia, we broke the record in the UK at four in the morning. We broke the record in Spain, Canada and the United States.”
Mayweather’s 2015 bout with Manny Pacquiao is believed to have sold around 5.5 million PPVs worldwide, which was the previous PPV record.
Mayweather went on to stop McGregor in the 10th round of their August fight.
