Dana White: There’s no “Date” or “Plan” Yet For Conor McGregor – Michael Chandler Fight
By FCF Staff
Recently, Conor McGregor informed Michael Chandler that he’s talked to Dana White about a new date for their long discussed, fight. But, White is reporting there’s still no fixed plan in place.
Early in 2023, the UFC announced McGregor and Chandler would fight that year, but the fight never materialized. The two were finally booked to fight at UFC 303 last month. But, McGregor broke a toe and was forced to withdraw.
This week, McGregor shared out to Chandler via social media that he had talked to White about their fight, and that 2024 is “looking good.” White appeared on Monday’s episode of the Pat McAfee show, and when asked about a new date for McGregor versus Chandler, he reported that has not been determined yet (quote via MMA Fighting.com).
“As of sitting here right here, right now, no, I don’t have a date for it or a plan or anything like that,” White said. “Obviously, me, the fans, and ESPN would love it to happen in [2024], but we’ll see what happens.”
McGregor (22-6) hasn’t fought since July, 2021, when he broke his leg in his rubber match bout wiwith Dustin Poirier.
Chandler (23-8), meanwhile, is also coming off a loss to Poirier. The former Bellator champ was submitted by the former interim lightweight champ in November, 2022.
The UFC is expected to hold seven more pay-per-view cards in 2024; however, the main events for UFC 304 and UFC 305 have already been booked. It’s been reported that for the September 14th, UFC 306 card, the promotion is interested in booking featherweight champion Ilia Topuria or bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley for the main event.
