Although officially, Deiveson Figueiredo recorded a second round, stoppage win over Joseph Benavidez last month, the flyweight contender says he deserves a rematch.

Figueiredo faced Benavidez at UFC Norfolk in a contest that was to determine the promotion’s new flyweight champ. Figueiredo missed weight, however, and was ineligible to win the belt.

In round two, the Brazilian fighter put Benavidez away with a series of booming punches. But, since the final flurry proceeded an accidental clashing of the heads, and because Figueiredo missed weight, the expectation is that a rematch will take place.

While talking to MMA Junkie about that recently, Figueiredo said the following:

“I’m very focused on this rematch,” Figueiredo  said through a translator. “He deserves this rematch. He made the fight happen, even though I was not on weight. So let’s face it again, and I’ll catch him again.”

And, while talking about the possibility of fighting former flyweight champ, Henry Cejudo down the road, he stated:

“If Cejudo one day wants to come back (to flyweight), I will be waiting for him,” Figueiredo said. “One day, I will own the belt of the two (divisions) – my (division) and that of Cejudo. Believe me. God is with me.”

“The division will never end. I will save this category. I will always make aggressive fights. I will take the audience to their maximum delirium. I will always make it happen. We will have the rematch, me and Benavidez.

The 32-year-old Figueiredo (18-1) has gone 7-1 in the UFC to date. The only fighter to defeat him to date is fellow contender, Jussier Formiga.
