Georges St-Pierre’s Lawyer Was “Blown Away by How Restrictive” UFC Deal Is
By FCF Staff
Recently Georges St-Pierre reported that his lawyer has terminated his UFC contract, and now the latter has publicly commented about the confiict.
According to St-Pierre, he is now a free agent, after the UFC failed to table a bout agreement before a deadline his lawyer, James Quinn, had set. The former welterweight champ relayed this on the latest “MMA Hour”.
In a follow up interview from MMA Fighting.com, Quinn had this to say about St-Pierre’s contract:
“I’ve done a lot of work in sports. When I read that contract, I was blown away by how restrictive it is,” Quinn said.
“They’re basically tying him up for life. They have no rights and they own all of his licensing and all the other things. It’s unheard of in the other professional sports. And they won’t get away with it forever.”
Since St-Pierre’s interview, the UFC has issued a statement relaying that as far as the promotion is concerned, the Canadian star remains under contract.
GSP announced several weeks ago that he wants to fight again, however, he has also stated that he requires a new contract. St-Pierre says that the UFC’s uniform deal with Reebok has adversely impacted sponsorship deals he had in place.
