Henry Cejudo Argues Deiveson Figueiredo Cheated in Joseph Benavidez Fight

Following Deiveson Figueiredo’s stoppage win over Joseph Benavidez at UFC Norfolk, there have been calls for a rematch, and Henry Cejudo’s clearly on board with that idea.

Benavidez and Figueiredo battled at UFC Norfolk last month, and the latter stopped the perennial contender in round two. The fight was for the flyweight title Cejudo recently relinquished, but since Figueiredo missed weight for the bout, he couldn’t secure the title.

Due to Figueiredo’s weight miss, and because an accidental headbutt preceded the fight’s final flurry, calls for a rematch have been making the rounds. While talking to MMA Fighting recently, Cejudo was asked to comment on a rematch, and the bantamweight champ said this (quote via BJ Penn.com):

“I think it’s good [to rematch],” Cejudo said. “I think Joe does deserves it. It was unfortunate because Joe did lose, but Figueiredo didn’t win [because] there is a disadvantage. So, it’s not so much the 2.5 pounds of water that he had to get off, it’s the fatigue that comes with it. Two and a half pounds is a lot of weight man, even 0.5 is a lot. 0.2 at times at the highest levels? Super hard, so it’s an advantage man. So Figueiredo, he did cheat.”

Cejudo (15-2), meanwhile, is booked to fight Jose Aldo on May 9th at UFC 250.
