Khamzat Chimaev reported that he incurred some sort of hand injury, during the opening round of his recent fight with Kamaru Usman, and now his manager has provided an update.

Chimaev faced the former welterweight champ at the recent UFC 294 card and won the fight via majority decision. After the fight, the undefeated middleweight reported he believed he broke his hand in the first round.

More recently, Chimaev’s manager, Majdi Shammas informed ESPN that the fighter did not break his hand. But, Chimaev did tear a ligament in his right hand. Chimaev will be reassessed in four weeks, but, currently, it’s not expected he’ll need to undergo surgery.

Leading up to UFC 294, UFC President Dana White said the winner of the Chimaev – Usman fight would challenge middleweight champion, Sean Strickland, next.

The 29-year-old Chimaev moved his record to 13-0 with the victory.
