Top UFC bantamweight contender, Marlon Moraes, is the latest fighter to test positive for COVID-19.
The former WSOF champ, who was not booked for his next fight, has confirmed that he and his have contracted the virus. Moraes reported the news while speaking with ESPN Brazil.
“Unfortunately, I got the virus — me and my wife. We were very weak, the symptoms were very strong on us. Thank God I didn’t need to go to the hospital, but I had to take my wife to the hospital,” Moraes said. “We spent a day at the hospital. She was treated by them, she took some medicines, then she stayed under observation.”
The 32-year-old fighter hasn’t fought since December, when he defeated Jose Aldo via split decision. Not long ago, the bantamweight called for fights with Dominick Cruz and Cody Garbrandt.
Moraes currently carries a record of 23-6, and he’s ranked #1 in the UFC’s bantamweight division.
