The UFC has announced a major shake up for its upcoming schedule, as the promotion has confirmed that former welterweight champ Johny Hendricks will fight Matt Brown next, instead of champion Robbie Lawler.

Following Lawler’s split decision win over Hendricks in December, the promotion announced that a rubber match between the two fighters was next. Rory MacDonald, who was initially promised a title shot, was informed he wouldn’t challenge for the belt after all.

Well, on Tuesday, it was revealed that Hendricks and Brown will fight at UFC 185, which will take place on March 14th in Dallas. Brown was originally scheduled to fight Tarec Saffiedine at UFC FN 60 on February 14th, but the latter recently went down with an injury.

Moving into the main event slot for UFC FN 60 is a welterweight bout between Brandon Thatch and Stephen Thompson. That event will take place in Broomfield, Colorado.

According to a follow up report from MMA Fighting, Hendricks’ manager, Ted Ehrhardt, informed the outlet that the former champ took the fight with Brown in an effort to stay busy. Ehrhardt relayed that Lawler isn’t interested in fighting until summer. ATT’s Dan Lambert also confirmed that the champion doesn’t want to compete before May, after having a busy, 2014 campaign.

Recently it was reported that a fight between MacDonald and Hector Lombard is targeted for UFC 186 on April 25th, however, the bout has not been finalized.
