Petr Yan & Manager Make Case For Interim Bantamweight Title Shot

Petr Yan

By FCF Staff

Following the news that Henry Cejudo likely won’t fight again in 2019, Petr Yan and his manager are driving for an interim title fight that features the Russian.

Cejudo won the bantamweight title earlier this month at UFC 238 by stopping Marlon Moraes. Since then, however, it was reported Cejudo is undergoing shoulder surgery and probably won’t compete again this year.

Following that news, Yan tweeted out the comments below:

Yan’s manager, Daniel Rubenstein, told MMA Junkie this:

“At this point, Petr has fought five times, five wins, in under 12 months,” Yan said. “No one has ever done that in the bantamweight division of the UFC. I feel Petr has earned his title shot at Henry, but with Henry being out for the rest of the year, if the UFC wants to do an interim title vs. Sterling, Petr is more than happy to oblige.”

Yan (13-1) also completed at UFC 238 and defeated Jimmie Rivera via unanimous decision.
