Although Anderson Silva has denied using performance enhancing drugs, a new report says that the legendary fighter will admit to using banned substances in a ‘therapeutic’ sense.

Following Silva’s decision win over Nick Diaz at UFC 183, it was revealed that the former middleweight champ has allegedly tested positive for steroids. According to a post at UFC.com, the Brazilian outlet UOL is reporting that:

Silva will insist that his use of performance enhancing drugs wasn’t to gain an advantage on his opponent, but rather as an aid in his recovery from the broken leg suffered in his December 2013 loss to Chris Weidman. Lawyers will also argue that the amount of the substances found in his system were minimal, thus giving him no advantage over his January 31 opponent, Nick Diaz.

In addition to the steroids, Drostanolone and Androstane, Silva tested positive for Oxazepam (an anti-anxiety medication) and Temazepam, a drug used for sleep deprivation. Silva’s reps reportedly plan to argue that the Oxazepam and Temazepam were used by the fighter to recover from a back injury he suffered in November.

Silva, who is currently under a temporary suspension, is expected to meet with the Nevada Commission next month.
