Report: Bellator May Create Women’s Featherweight Division, Have Reached Out to Gina Carano

Gina Carano

By FCF Staff

Although there has been considerable speculation that Gina Carano could be headed to the UFC, news has surfaced that the star has also been in talks with Bellator.

Although Carano has not signed with the Viacom owned promotion, as recently rumoured, sources have told MMA Fighting that the fighter has been contacted by Bellator. The report also says that the promotion is considering adding a women’s featherweight division, which is the weight Carano competed at previously.

Bellator promoted a women’s strawweight division in the past, but dissolved it last year.

The report comes as newly hired President Scott Coker continues to add his footprint to Bellator. Coker has worked with Carano in the past, as the featherweight fought for the Strikeforce organization in 2006 and 2009.

UFC President Dana White relayed in July that he was hoping to sign Carano shortly, and that a bout with bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey could take place in December.
