Chris Weidman isn’t typically known for making bold or aggressive statements, but the UFC middleweight champ isn’t holding back in terms of his next opponent, Vitor Belfort.

Weidman and Belfort were scheduled to fight at UFC 181 on December 6th, but a hand injury to the champ has delayed the fight until early next year. While appearing on a recent edition of “The MMA Hour”, here is some of what Weidman had to say about facing the punishing veteran (quotes via MMA Fighting.com):

“I’m going to have a lot of fun,” Weidman said. “I’m going in there to embarrass him. This is not going to be a close fight, this is going to be a completely, I’m going to embarrass him in that cage. I’m going to make him look like an old man who withered away.”

Belfort reportedly accused Weidman of delaying their bout, in a recent interview with the Brazilian outlet Combate, so that he could “spend Christmas” with the title. The comments have evidently angered Weidman, who furthered:

“This is a guy who, I just fought in July,” Weidman said. “It doesn’t make any sense, it’s not like I’ve been out for a year. This guy hasn’t fought since November. And I was actually, we were supposed to fight. We were lined up to fight in July. And he had to pull out of the fight. And you know why he had to pull out of the fight? He failed a drug test. So this guy is failing drug tests and he has the audacity, he has the balls to start talking junk?”

Weidman (12-0) is coming off a decision win over Lyoto Machida in July, while Belfort (24-10) hasn’t fought since last November when he stopped Dan Henderson.

Although no official date has been set, Weidman-Belfort is expected to take place in February, 2015.
