UFC 178: Jon Jones Happy to be Fighting Daniel Cormier, “Nothing Like Fresh Meat”
By FCF Staff
Although the consensus seemed to be that fans were hoping to see Jon Jones rematch Alexander Gustafsson next, the light-heavyweight champ will get to face Daniel Cormier like he hoped.
On Wednesday, the UFC announced that Gustafsson has been forced to withdraw from his rematch with Jones at UFC 178. Cormier will replace the injured contender at the September 27th event, which will go down at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
After news of the switch was announced, Jones made the following tweet:
This is the fight I wanted in the first place. Nothing like fresh meat #Champion2014

In June, Jones made it clear that he was hoping to face Cormier next, rather than Gustafsson. Jones and Cormier have exchanged verbal jabs frequently since 2012.
Jones worked his way to a unanimous decision win over Gustafsson last September.
