Recently UFC President Dana White relayed that a bout between Alexander Gustafsson and Anthony Johnson makes a lot of sense, but the latter is evidently hoping to face Ryan Bader first.

Johnson, who quickly put away Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in July, spoke with UFC.com after Ryan Bader’s decision win over Ovince St.Preux on Saturday. While discussing his next fight, here is some of what the light-heavyweight had to say:

“Hopefully I’ll be able to fight in late October or something like that if there are any fights open,” said Johnson, who also characterized Bader-St. Preux as a “boring” fight. “I was hoping I could fight Ryan Bader in late October and fight Gus on the Jon Jones card. That’s my idea.”

Johnson also added that in his opinion, Bader is a better wrestler than Phil Davis, who he decisioned in April.

Gustafsson was originally scheduled to fight Jon Jones at UFC 178 in September, but a knee injury forced him to withdraw. Now Jones–who is also recovering from knee surgery–is set to fight Daniel Cormier on January 3rd.

Gustafsson and his camp have said they plan to wait for a title shot. White, however, says the promotion hopes to have the number one contender fight in the interim.
