Report: Bellator’s Scott Coker Says Promotion Had “Quick Conversation” With Gina Carano’s Camp
By FCF Staff
Recently eyebrows were raised throughout the MMA when reports surfaced that Bellator has reached out to Gina Carano, but according to the promotion’s Scott Coker, talks were brief.
Bellator recently announced it has created a women’s featherweight division, and that further, it has signed Marloes Coenen and Julia Budd. While this furthered speculation Carano could be headed to Bellator, Coker had this to say about subject on the latest “MMA Hour” (quote via MMA Fighting.com):
“We’ve had one quick conversation with (manager) Scott (Karp), and that was it,” Bellator’s president said. “And it was just one quick conversation and there was nothing really made of it. I think that Gina wants to fight at 135.”
Carano has reportedly been in talks with the UFC, and Dana White has said publicly he’s hoping to match the star up versus bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey.
Coker also confirmed that the promotion would be interested in signing Cris “Cyborg”, but that since the renowned fighter is under contract with Invicta FC, they haven’t spoken to the fighter.
