Report: Dana White Says Renan Barao Will Not Receive Title Shot in Next Bout

Renan Barao

By FCF Staff

Not only has Renan Barao lost his chance to fight for the bantamweight belt at UFC 177, but it looks like the former champ’s title shot has been lost altogether.

Barao was pulled from his rematch with TJ Dillashaw on Friday, after he reportedly passed out and hit his head, while cutting weight. Joe Soto has been tapped to take his place.

While speaking to the media after the last minute change was made, UFC President Dana White confirmed Barao will not challenge for the title in his next fight.

Barao was initially granted an immediate rematch with Dillashaw, following his stoppage loss to the latter in May. Prior to the defeat, Barao had gone undefeated in 33 straight fights and had won 7 straight bouts in the UFC.
