After signing a multi-year deal with pro-wrestling’s WWE last year, it’s being reported that Cain Velasquez has been released by the company.

The former UFC heavyweight champ announced last fall that he was transitioning into pro-wrestling full time, and a deal with WWE came not long after. But, according to a report from MMA Fighting, Dave Meltzer recently reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that Velasquez has been released by the WWE.

The company has been reducing costs on account of the coronavirus pandemic.

It’s not clear whether the 37-year-old Velasquez will look to return to MMA or join another pro-wrestling promotion.

Velasquez (14-3), whose fighting career has been marred by injuries, was quickly stopped by Francis Ngannou in his last MMA bout. The fight took place in February, 2019.
