Report: Israel Adesanya & Kelvin Gastelum to Battle For Interim 185 Title

Adesanya

By FCF Staff

The fall out from Robert Whittaker’s sudden withdrawal from UFC 234 continues, as now it’s being reported that Israel Adesanya and Kelvin Gastelum are going to fight for an interim 185 title.

Whittaker was supposed to face Gastelum at the recent event, but the middleweight champ had to withdraw due to a hernia, and underwent emergency surgery. Adesanya defeated Anderson Silva by decision at that same event, in a contest that was a title shot eliminator.

Now ESPN is reporting that UFC President Dana White has confirmed that Adesanya (16-0) and Gastelum (15-3) will square off for an interim belt, April 13th. The location and venue for the card has yet to be determined.

Recently Whittaker’s manager reported that the champ likely won’t return to action until this summer. Whittaker’s last fight was in June, 2018, when he defeated Yoel Romero by split decision.
