Recently UFC President Dana White said the promotion is hoping to have Khamzat Chimaev fight twice in the near future, and now it’s being reported Gerald Meerschaert will likely be his next opponent.

Not long ago, White said that the UFC intends to have Chimaev fight this month in Las Vegas, and then possibly Demian Maia on Fight Island, in October.

Since then, Combate is reporting the UFC is trying to finalize a fight between Chimaev and  Gerald Meerschaert  for September 19th. Other outlets are also reporting the fight is in the works.

Following these reports, Meerschaert made it clear he plans to spoil the UFC’s plans of having Chimaev fight again in October.

In July, Chimaev became the first fighter in UFC history to win two fights in just ten days. The 8-0 fighter submitted John Phillips and ten days later he stopped Rhys McKee.

Meerschaert (31-13) is looking to get back on track following a stoppage loss to Ian Heinisch in June.
