Report: Wanderlei Silva Weighs in on Chael Sonnen’s Drug Test Failure, Believes Rival “Will be Back”
By FCF Staff
While it remains to be seen what kind of disciplinary action the Nevada State Athletic Commission enacts for Wanderlei Silva, the fighter has weighed in on his rival Chael Sonnen’s recent drug test failure.
Silva, who has admitted to taking diuretics after failing to take a random drug test from the NSAC, recently spoke with the Brazilian outlet Tatame.com. Here is some of what the former champ had to say about Sonnen, who tested positive for several banned substances not long ago and has since retired (translation via MMA Fighting.com):
“He retired because he would be out for a year, but I still think he will be back,” Silva said. “It was not real. When (his suspension) is over, he will be back and we will fight.”
“Another thing that upsets me is that I saw some headlines saying ‘Wanderlei refuses to do the test, Sonnen is clean.’ I saw this on the internet. Who said he was clean? He was taking it all and then some.”
The NSAC is reviewing Silva’s case and is expected to announce soon, whether the veteran will be suspended and fined, for not submitting to a random drug test.
Silva was originally scheduled to fight Sonnen at UFC 175 on July 5th. In the aforementioned story the Brazilian star also expressed an interest in fighting Vitor Belfort and Luke Rockhold.
