Report: Wanderlei Silva Willing to Fight Chael Sonnen in Brazil

Wanderlei Silva

Despite a recent retirement announcement, and a lifetime ban from the Nevada Commission, Wanderlei Silva is reportedly interested in fighting Chael Sonnen for a promotion in Brazil.

In September, Silva announced he was hanging up the gloves, after claiming the UFC had ruined his desire to fight. The announcement came shortly before Silva received a lifetime ban from Nevada, for skipping out on a random drug test earlier this year.

According to a report from MMA Fighting.com, Silva was a guest commentator for this past weekend’s XFC International card in Sao Paulo, Brazil. During the broadcast, the legendary fighter was reportedly asked by the event’s president, if he was interested in fighting Sonnen in Brazil. Silva said he would, if Sonnen is interested in the fight.

Sonnen also announced his retirement earlier this year, after he failed two drug tests and received a two year suspension from the Nevada Commission.

Generally speaking, commissions will not sign off on fights if one of the competitors is suspended in another jurisdiction. Contractual obligations with the UFC would also likely stand in the way of the match-up ever materializing.
